Thanksgiving: A Time to be Thankful

Thanksgiving is always a time of year that I look forward to.  Every Thanksgiving my family reconvenes under the same roof to eat amazing food and swap stories.  It is a time when you are truly able to slow down and enjoy each other’s company as a prelude to the Christmas season.

No matter your age, Thanksgiving is a time of year that helps cultivate gratitude.  To share with others what you are most thankful for serves as a reminder that it is important to be grateful daily.  One way my family helps to give back to the community is through participating in Operation Christmas Child.  During the Thanksgiving season, we help to pack shoeboxes for children in need.  This is a way to give back to the community during the season of giving.

Of course, Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without great food.  My favorite Thanksgiving dish is a vegetable casserole.  The recipe is linked here: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/vegetable-casserole/.  Other classic dishes that can be found on my family’s Thanksgiving table are sweet potato casserole, dressing, cranberry sauce, and of course a turkey.

The past year has been difficult for many as the pandemic has posed unforeseen challenges.  I am grateful that this Thanksgiving my family will be together once again for some much-needed fun and laughter.  The joy of being with family around the holidays is a refreshing feeling after the struggles we have all faced from the pandemic.  Happy Thanksgiving!
