Family-Friendly Halloween Events in the Triad for 2026
Halloween is just around the corner, which means spooky costumes, carved pumpkins, and more candy than any human being should have in one place. The Piedmont Triad offers plenty of community events so your kids can enjoy trick-or-treating, sign up for costume contests, and maybe even brave a haunted trail.
The good news is you don’t have to travel far for Halloween activities in North Carolina. Guilford, Alamance, Rockingham, and Randolph counties all have exciting seasonal events. Here’s a quick rundown of ways to keep your family busy.
Guilford County: Halloween Fun Around Greensboro
Greensboro is well known for several family-friendly Halloween events throughout October. It has plenty of safe neighborhoods for trick-or-treating, but a night of skeletons and ghouls wouldn’t be complete without a trip downtown. On Saturday, October 24, why not attend Ghoulash! at Center City and LeBauer Parks. This Greensboro Youth Council event partners with Greensboro Downtown Parks and includes games, music, vendors, food, and candy stations. It’s mostly for kids 12 and under, but it’s worth the trip.
You can also trick-or-treat on Elm Street, then head downtown, where local businesses happily hand out treats. If you enjoy dressing up a pet for the festivities, check out Howl-O-Ween at Country Park. Local vendors support furry friends with treats and costume parties everyone can enjoy.
Alamance County: Fireworks and Halloween Celebrations
Halloween is a chance to engage with a larger community. It doesn’t have to be just your little family. Burlington’s Dark in the Ball Park is a great addition to the calendar. You can visit the Burlington Athletic Stadium at the event, collect candy from local businesses and community organizations, and enjoy live music in the background. Around 8 pm, an annual Halloween fireworks show caps the evening.
If you don’t want to wait for the 31st, try Burlington’s Downtown Monster Mash. This year, it’s on October 16th, with most events centered around the Historic Depot. Kids can trick-or-treat in a safe, controlled space while downtown businesses host pop-up kiosks, promotions at participating stores, and more.
Rockingham County: Small-Town Trick-or-Treating and Seasonal Fun
Rockingham County is more about the intimate, smaller Halloween activities for kids who love traditions and close-knit communities. October 30th in downtown Stoneville is for trick-or-treating. This controlled “trunk” event lets local volunteers set up an area that keeps families safe and less worn out than walking miles through neighborhoods where only a few houses participate.
When you’re done, head over to the Madison-Mayodan Public Library for a second dose of trick-or-treating, coloring, and cartoons. Then stop at the Museum & Archives of Rockingham County for its annual Exhibit Trick or Treat program. Just make sure your kiddos are in costume so they can get in free to see the exhibits and get some candy.
Randolph County: Boo at the North Carolina Zoo
For two weekends in October, the Piedmont Triad’s biggest Halloween events take place at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. The biggest event in the area is the Boo at the NC Zoo. It runs over two weekends from 9 am to 3 pm, offering trick-or-treating along the Africa Loop, plus costume contests, games, face painting, and crafts. There is a small admission fee, but it’s well worth the expense.
The Randolph-Asheboro YMCA will also be hosting BooFest on October 23. From 5:30 to 8:30 pm, you can enjoy trick-or-treating, themed games, face painting, food trucks, a cake walk, and a haunted trail.
If you have older kids, look for any of the popular haunted trails or houses around the Piedmont Triad. Some previously successful events include:
- Woods of Terror in Greensboro
- Kersey Valley Spookywoods in Archdale
- Spooky Bottom Haunted Trail in Seagrove
- Wicked Whimsies in Pfafftown
- Haunted Hollow NC in Asheboro
- The 13th Acre in Monroe
- Haunted Forest at Panic Point in Youngsville
- Hawfields Haunted Forest in Mebane
- Original Hollywood Horror Show in Snow Camp
- J Razz and Tazz Farm Haunted Hay Ride in Gibsonville
Make Halloween a Family Tradition
Trick-or-treating in North Carolina doesn’t have to be only a quick walk up and down the local block. There are plenty of family-friendly events worth checking out. Just wear comfortable shoes, double-check the weather, and confirm any admission fees before you arrive.
At Woodruff Family Law Group, we understand the importance of creating new family traditions every holiday. Even during challenging transitions, familiar Halloween events can provide a sense of stability, connection, and excitement for the kids.
Whether that is watching fireworks in Burlington, sharing whole candy bars in Greensboro, or visiting the zoo in Asheboro, there are many opportunities to share time together this Halloween. We hope you and yours make the spooky season one to remember.
