Guilford County Announces Domestic Violence Pilot Program

by Jon Csuka, Attorney, Woodruff Family Law Group

-News Release-

Take note that Guilford County is participating in a pilot program with regard to the e-filing of 50-Bs/DVPO. We are the first county in the State to put these procedures into place.

All 50-B complaints will be E-filed from the Family Justice Center located at 201 S. Greene St., 2nd Floor, Greensboro, NC 27401, (336) 641-SAFE (7233). I was able to go to the FJC for the grand opening. If you have an opportunity to go over and get a tour it would be a good thing – it will be a tremendous resource for victims of domestic violence. It is located directly across the large courtyard in front of the main entrance of the Courthouse on Greene Street.

After e-filing, the Ex-Parte hearing will be via remote from the FJC into the Courtroom. The information from the e-filed 50-B complaints will be populated into the ex-parte orders for the judge (which should save A LOT of time for the judges and those of us in the courtroom). The orders (if granted) will have an e-signature and will be immediately sent to the sheriff and police, getting rid of any delay.

At the FJC there are also counselling services, health services, etc. all under one roof. See link http://www.myguilford.com/family-justice-center/ for more information. It is really meant to be a one-stop shop in cases of abuse and will be a great asset for Guilford County.

Our clients will be directed to the FJC and NOT the old 50-B office in the Courthouse to file 50-B complaints. There will be staff available at the FJC to walk them through the process.

In High Point, the complaints will be filled out at the Slane Center located at 1401 Long Street, High Point, NC 27262-2541. At this time in High Point only, there is not going to be remote ex-parte hearings and the clients will still need to appear in person in the courthouse.

This is the information I have now, but plan to continue to speak with our officials about this and will update with further information. If you have any questions you would like me to relay your message, please let me know and I will try to get answers ASAP.
